Picture of Robert Liu- Trujillo

Join us for a reading from Author and Illustrator Robert Liu-Trujillo as he reads from his new book Fresh Juice.  Author-illustrator Rob Liu-Trujillo's warm and vibrant watercolor illustrations are a celebration of mixed families and the many individuals who help make a neighborhood feel like a community.  Fresh Juice is a delightful and kid/community-centered picture book that will leave you thirsty for more!

Robert Liu-Trujillo is a life-long Bay Area resident. Born in Oakland, he’s the child of student activists who watched lots of science fiction and took him to many demonstrations. Always drawing, Rob grew up to be an artist falling in love with graffiti, fine art, illustration, murals, and children's books.

Maureen Hurley, guest poet

Maureen Hurley reads her poetry, then sits for an interview and discussion, as part of the Clearly Meant series.

A West Marin native, Maureen Hurley has taught poetry for many years in Bay Area schools, including here in Berkeley at Alexander Valley and Malcolm X. Her writing appears in a variety of venues, in print and online, including in the anthologies Atomic Ghost, House on Via Gambito, and a forthcoming anthology of poems on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Catching the Last Light. Also a visual artist, Hurley’s photos of Julia Vinograd will be featured in a documentary on the Berkeley Street Poet.

A free chapbook of Maureen Hurley poems will be available at all BPL branches during the month preceding the event. Pick one up! (There will also be copies at the reading.)
