De-stress and Renew through Gentle Yoga @Claremont Branch


Berkeley, CA. November 7, 2016—The Holidays can be stressful. Join us at the Berkeley Public Library’s Claremont Branch on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00pm, when Angela Madonia leads us in yoga postures that support releasing tension while stretching, balancing and strengthening the body in a gentle and supportive way. Movement, breath exercises and mindfulness meditation techniques will be presented simply and accessibly. Leave with some tools for those moments when you want to calm your system and to reconnect. Angela Madonia has taught yoga and mindfulness since 2007.  She has brought the tools of yoga and meditation to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, eating disorders, trauma, domestic violence, chronic pain, and stress.

Kids Learn Coding at the Claremont Branch


Berkeley, CA. November 7, 2016—Kids! Curious about coding? The Berkeley Public Library is hosting Kids Learn Coding at the Claremont Branch on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 3:45pm. Children 10-13 years-old are invited to explore the basics, and beyond, of coding in this hour-long free workshop! Simon Maude, a computer science student at UC Berkeley will use Udacity, a user-friendly online coding learning site that is fun and educational. Space is limited. Join the Berkeley Public Library Board of Library Trustees!


Berkeley. CA. November 1, 2016—Support the Berkeley Public Library as a member of the Board of Library Trustees. The City is currently accepting applications to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Board. If you are a Berkeley resident passionate about libraries, we encourage you to apply. About the Board
The Board of Library Trustees serves in an administrative capacity in addition to advising City Council concerning Library policies and programs. With assistance from the Library Director, Trustees formulate policy and serve as managing agents of the Library Fund.

Trustees are appointed for a term of four years. Board meetings are governed by the Brown Act and City policies. Trustees must reside in Berkeley and are required to take an oath of office, file a Statement of Economic Interests, and attend meetings on a regular basis.  

Application process
Applicants will need to submit both the General Application and the Board of Library Trustees Supplemental Questionnaire to the City Clerk by January 13, 2017 at 5:00pm. You may contact the City Clerk with questions: clerk@cityofberkeley.info, telephone (510) 981-6900, or TDD (510) 981-6903.

The Board of Library Trustees will interview candidates at a public meeting on February 1, 2017. The new Trustee’s term will begin March 24, 2017.
