Academy Award Winner Harley Jessup comes to Berkeley Public Library

Berkeley, California (September 10, 2019) - Academy Award winner Harley Jessup comes to the Berkeley Public Library on Saturday, September 21, for a Q & A session with patrons and to showcase some of his artwork.

Jessup has been nominated for two visual effects Academy Awards, and won once. At Pixar Animation Studios, Jessup served as production designer for Monsters, Inc., Ratatouille, Cars 2, Presto, The Good Dinosaur and Coco. Before working at Pixar, Jessup was production designer on the award-winning Walt Disney film, James and the Giant Peach.

“We are excited and fortunate to be able to bring talented artists to the Library, like Harley Jessup, a leader in their field,” notes Heather Cummins, Supervising Librarian.

The day of festivities for all ages begins at Central at 12 noon with a scavenger hunt and prizes, the making of papel picados (a decorative Mexican paper craft) and more fun-filled activities. At 1:30 pm Library staff will begin seating patrons for a 2 pm screening of the animated film, Coco, in the Community Meeting Room. In Disney•Pixar’s Coco, aspiring musician Miguel teams up with charming trickster Héctor on an extraordinary journey through the Land of the Dead. The Q & A with Jessup, Coco’s production designer, immediately follows the screening.

The events on September 21 are part of the many intergenerational programs the Library is offering in honor of National Hispanic Heritage month which is celebrated from September 15 - October 15. The Library has planned a diversity of programs for patrons at Central and at Library branches, including a series of five free music and dance events.
