Beyond the immediate impact upon those living without shelter it is on the minds of Berkeley residents and business-owners, and is important to Berkeley voters this November. As the 2016 election cycle heats up, the Berkeley Public Library partnered with the Northbrae Community Church and Berkeley Organizing Congregations for Action to bring you this discussion about homelessness.

Berkeley CA. August 15, 2016—A January 2016 report to the Berkeley City Council revealed that Berkeley’s unsheltered homeless population grew by 53% since 2009. Homelessness issues were mentioned by many community stakeholders during our strategic planning; in response we have partnered with local organizations to provide information about Homelessness. We invite everyone interested to Homelessness in Berkeley: a panel discussion on Saturday, September 10 at 2:00pm in the Central Berkeley Public Library Community Meeting Room. The panel will dispel stereotypes, demystify homelessness, and lay the groundwork for greater public understanding and involvement. Berkeley, CA –August 12, 2016 – Learn more about college and careers at the Berkeley Public Library free Career Goals Workshop at the North Branch on Thursday, September 1 from 7:00-8:00pm. Bonnie Xu works with students U.C. Davis on college selection, professional behavior for college and work, and selecting a career. This free workshop is open to everyone, and is a great way for teens and adults to learn more about what they can do to explore future careers, research potential colleges, and learn professional skills. Since 1995, the Berkeley Public Library has remembered the bombing with a reading of Eleanor Coerr’s Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.
