Berkeley READS Adult Literacy Drop-in Tutoring/Computer Lab @Central EC

One-on-one (scheduled) drop-in tutoring sessions are available for learners of Berkeley READS Adult Literacy Program who are on our wait list and for those who want additional assistance.  Adult literacy learners and tutors can also access tools in our computer lab at Central in the Electronic Classroom.

Read to a Dog @Central

Read to a Dog

Children ages 5 to 12 can sign up for a twenty minute session where they will read aloud to a gentle dog provided by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, a nonprofit all-volunteer organization.

This program will be held on October 12, October 19, and October 26 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in Central Branch's Children's Story Room on the 4th floor.

Registration is required. Please call 510-981-6223, or come into Central Branch to register.

Ballet and Books @Central CMR

Ballet and Books is back!

Ballet & Books is a non-profit organization of UC Berkeley students who mentor children ages 6-9 in literacy and dance, working to close the literacy gap and connect with the community.

 

Mentoring sessions start September 23rd at the Berkeley Public Library!

Central, 3rd Floor Community Meeting Room, 2090 Kittredge St.

Every Saturday 9/23-11/4, 10am-12pm (unless library is closed)

Read to a Dog @West

Read to a Dog

Read to a Dog @North

Sign-ups for reading sessions begin June 1.

Read to a Dog is a great way for children to practice oral fluency, spend time with a friendly dog, and have fun. The goal is to help build a child's self-esteem and confidence, as well as foster a fondness for reading. Children ages 5 to 12 can sign up for a twenty minute session where they will read aloud to a gentle dog provided by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, a nonprofit all-volunteer organization. Read to a Dog will be held in North Branch's Community Meeting Room.
