Keep reading during the summer! Our 2020 theme is "Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate and Discover!" Join us June 12 - August 15, 2020.
Kids entering grades 6-8 can volunteer at the library as a Student Friend. Volunteer tasks include cleaning books, writing thank-you notes to Summer Reading sponsors, and assisting in setting up for programs.
Each participant can volunteer for one hour per day for a total of 4 hours for the summer. 2020 dates are from June 22 - August 14. Hours are flexible; contact the Central Children's Room to see available time slots. A signed permission slip is needed at the time of or before the first volunteer hour.

4th & 5th Grade Book Club
Make friends and enjoy delicious treats while talking about fun books. For more information and to find out how to get a copy of the book we'll be reading next, contact us at 510-981-6223 or email us at email@example.com. All 4th and 5th graders are invited to join at any meeting throughout the year. Come even if you haven't had a chance to read the book!
We meet once a month, usually on the first Tuesday of the month in October, and the second Tuesday of the month in November - April.
At the first meeting of the school year in October, we are introduced to each other and then we vote on the books that we will be reading later on in the year. Our staff has chosen the slate of books and will briefly introduce the books at the meeting before we take the vote. Each month participants will receive a copy (to keep) of the book that will be discussed at the next meeting. View a sample of a meeting handout.
