Youth Open Mic Night

Come by Youth Spirit Artworks, on 1740 Alcatraz Ave (about a 15 min walk from the Tarea Hall Pittman South Branch) for a youth open mic night! You can sign up to perform or show up to support, all are welcome. There will be free food and Berkeley Public Library swag. All poetry, music, dance, or other performance art is welcome. There will be special performances by the Berkeley Youth Poet Laureates and more!

Celebrate Poem In Your Pocket Day at the library! Come to any of our locations to pick up a beautifully decorated poem to read and share. Poems are from poets.org and the artwork is by Berkeley Public Library interns. Poems available during open hours at each BPL location. NEW DATE: Poetry Reading with Berkeley’s Adult and Youth Poets Laureate @Central

Celebrate Berkeley's poetic legacy and present with Berkeley’s Poets Laureate!

Join us for a poetry reading and conversation with Aya de León (Berkeley Poet Laureate), Julia Segre (Berkeley Youth Poet Laureate), and Serena Griffin (Berkeley Vice Youth Poet Laureate). 

This reading will take place at the Central Branch (5th Floor) on Monday, May 13th at 6pm. (It was rescheduled from April 22nd.)

Writing Workshop with Jamey Williams @West

In honor of Black History Month, join educator, actor, community organizer and internationally recogized poet, Jamey William for an Adult/Teens Writing Workshop at West Branch Berkeley Public Library!

After winning the Compliment Death Match at the National Potery Slam in 2017, Jamey Williams became the first person to be dubbled "the nicest poet in the country."

This Creative Writing Workshop will include writing your own spoken word, poetry and/or song, depending on your interest. 

Writers of all experience levels are welcome.
