Richard III @Central CMR

3rd floor Community Meeting Room

2016 marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.  The library has celebrated Shakespeare this year with live theater and the BBC series "Playing Shakespeare".  As the year draws to a close, we'll watch four unusual film productions in our mini film festival, "Shakespeare Outside the Box"

We begin with Sir Ian McKellen as Richard III, set in a fascist 1930's Britain.  Stay for a brief discussion after the film, released in 1995.

"It Can't Happen Here" @Central CMR

Join readers across the nation in bringing Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here" to the Berkeley Public Library. Lewis' darkly satirical play, written in 1936 for the National Theater Project, imagines the rise of fascism in America, race riots, huge income gaps between rich and poor, the stigmatizing of immigrants, global terror and a right-wing extremist running for President.

Tarot and Telepathy@THP South Branch

Have you ever had a psychic experience?  Would you like to?  This Halloween season come explore the mysteries of the mind with Intuitionist Courtney Kolb.

In this entertaining and interactive performance we will experience intuition and psychic abilities, fortunetelling and more.

If time allows we will conduct a short seance and give each audience member a chance to get a 'glimpse behind the veil.'
