Shakespeare Outside the Box: Korol Lir @Central CMR

3rd floor Community Meeting Room

"Shakespeare Outside the Box" is a mini-film festival of unusual filmed productions of Shakespeare plays.  Our third film in this four film series is from 1971: a Russian language (with subtitles) version of "King Lear" from director Grigori Kozintsev, with a score by Dmitri Shostakovich.  Next up: our final film will be Franco Zeffirelli's  "The Taming of the Shrew", starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, on July 21.

"Shakespeare Outside the Box" is a mini-film festival of unusual filmed productions of Shakespeare plays.  Our second film in this four film series is a 1969 "A Midsummer Night's Dream" directed by Peter Hall, starring Diana Rigg, David Warner, Judi Dench, Ian Holm and Helen Mirren.  Next up: a Russian "King Lear", with score by Shostakovich, on June 23.

Shakespeare Outside the Box: Hamlet @Central CMR

"Shakespeare Outside the Box" is a mini-film festival of unusual filmed productions of Shakespeare plays.  Our first film in this four film series is a 1969 "Hamlet" directed by Tony Richardson and starring Nicol Williamson as Hamlet, Anthony Hopkins as Claudius and rock chanteuse Marianne Faithfull as Ophelia. Next up: Peter Hall's 1969 film of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", with Diana Rigg, David Warner, Judi Dench, Ian Holm and Helen Mirren, on May 19.

Playreaders @Central CMR

3rd floor Community Meeting Room

Playreaders does what the name says- we read great plays aloud, changing parts frequently so everyone gets a chance to read.  No auditions or registration necessary- just show up and join in the fun.  Scripts are provided.  Plays are selected annually by the Playreaders themselves and range from contemporary to classic.  Questions?  Call Debbie Carton at 510-981-6236.
