Live Zydeco Music With Andrew Carriere @THP South

Join us for live Zydeco Music With Bay Area Legend Andrew Carriere. A native of Southern Louisiana, accordionist and Singer Andrew Carriere brings a long family tradition into his playing. His Father was Legendary Creole fiddler "Bebe" Carriere, his uncle was accordionist Eraste Carriere and cousins Chubby, Calvin and Roy Carrier are popular in the Zydeco arena.  We will also show a film on the History of Zydeco Music and Southwest Louisiana Culture.

Facing West Shadow Opera @Central CMR

Join us in the 3rd floor Community Meeting Room for Facing West Shadow Opera's production of "The Euphoria of Walt Whitman," a live Baroque puppet opera exploring queer poet Walt Whitman’s obsession with the traveling operas of the Wild West, phrenology, and the gold rush era. Shadow puppets are accompanied by live music written by Purcell, Monteverdi, Caccini, George Crumb and improvisation

What's Happening at Berkeley Rep? "Roe" @Central CMR

3rd floor Community Meeting Room

A docent from Berkeley Repertory Theatre will talk about the current production, "Roe" by Lisa Loomer.  Hear about the playwright's perspective, dive into the historical context and discover why the script is relevant now. Urban Africana Dance Workshop @Central CMR

Join us in the third floor community meeting room for an Urban Africana dance class led by Andréa Spearman.

 

Urban Africana dance uses movements from African styles, hip hop, modern/contemporary, and improv.

It bridges the gap between these genres and shows their parallel origins. You'll learn style while working up a sweat!

 

Please wear sneakers and clothes that allow you to move freely.

Produce Your Own TV Show @Central CMR

Join us in the 3rd floor Community Meeting Room to learn all about how to produce your own television show.

You may know host Sally Joan Baker and director Adnan S. Touma from their work on a show called Wee Poets, which airs on Berkeley Community Media. 

They will discuss how Wee Poets was created, how they've kept the show going for 33 years, and give attendees tips on how to start their own TV program.

Leon Williams' Spring Swing @Claremont

Leon Williams is back for a special program of Spring Swing! Leon's electrifying performances serve up jazz with "unyielding heat and swing". Leon Williams has performed with Kenny Burrell, Gill Scott Heron, David Hardiman, The San Francisco All Stars Orchestra, Ed Kelly, Achyutan, and Charles Brown.
