"Shakespeare Outside the Box" is a mini-film festival of unusual filmed productions of Shakespeare plays.  Our final film in this four film series is Oliver Parker's "Othello".  This 1995 film has the distinction of being the first filmed version of "Othello" with an black actor playing the title role: Laurence Fishburne.  Kenneth Branagh as Iago and Irene Jacob as Desdemona also star in this historically important production.

Shakespeare Outside the Box: Hamlet @Central CMR

3rd floor community meeting room

"Shakespeare Outside the Box" is a mini-film festival of unusual filmed productions of Shakespeare plays.  Our third film in this four film series is Tony Richardson's "Hamlet", starring Anthony Hopkins and Nicol Williamson, with Marianne Faithfull as Ophelia.  This 1969 film reflects much of the 1960's sensibilities, and though not critically acclaimed, offers an interesting and perhaps valid interpretation of Hamlet as solidly anti-establishment.   Next up: Oliver Parker's "Othello", on Saturday, January 27, 2018, 2 p.m.
