Welcome to our series of education sessions with the creators of Cafe Ohlone, hosted by the library! Come learn from & about East Bay Ohlone culture and experience.
There are four events in the series, each led by mak-'amham founders Vince Medina and Louis Trevino: three virtual education sessions and one in-person tea tasting at Cafe Ohlone on the Cal campus. Talk #1: East Bay Ohlone Cultural Continuity - virtual event (Zoom) on Tuesday, April 11, 6-7pm
Join Vince and Louis as they discuss East Bay Ohlone culture as not only part of the past, but as a vital, vibrant part of the Bay Area community's present and future.
Talk #2: Chochenyo Language Restoration - virtual event (Zoom) on Tuesday, April 18, 6-7pm
Learn from Vince and Louis about Chochenyo, the language of the East Bay Ohlone, and how a new generation of speakers are making it part of every day life in the East Bay.
Talk #3: East Bay Ohlone Culinary Traditions: Continuity and Restoration - virtual event (Zoom) on Tuesday, April 25, 6-7pm
Vince and Louis speak on the culinary tradition of the East Bay Ohlone, and why Cafe Ohlone is not just a cafe, but a “love song to Ohlone culture."
Tea & Talk @ Cafe Ohlone - in-person event (Cafe Ohlone), May 3, 3-4:30 pm
Enjoy tea (and brownies!) with traditional springtime flavors & ingredients while mak-'amham founders Vince Medina and Louis Trevino lead a 30 minute talk followed by audience Q&A.
