Death Café @West

Death Cafe @West
- (ended)

You are invited to a Death Café experience where people, often strangers, gather to discuss death.

The objective is “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives”. The experience will be a group discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. Death Cafés help people talk about death and dying in a supportive, unstructured way.

The Death Café approach, currently used in more than 81 countries worldwide, allows individuals to discuss difficult topics, increasing their self-awareness, potentially reducing death anxiety, and augmenting compassionate connections through conversation and personal sharing (Miles and Corr, 2015; Fong, 2017; Chang, 2021).

Death Cafes are alway:

- Free
- Open to, and respectful of, people of all communities and belief systems.
- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action

Like life, a Death Cafe has a beginning, middle and an end:

Beginning - Introduction and some basic ground rules: listening when people are talking, respect for others' views and confidentiality

Middle - Introduce yourself and say why you've come to Death Cafe

End - Death Cafe session comes to a close

We look forward to seeing you!
