Richard III @Central CMR

December 10, 2016 - 2:00pm-4:00pm (ended)

3rd floor Community Meeting Room

2016 marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.  The library has celebrated Shakespeare this year with live theater and the BBC series "Playing Shakespeare".  As the year draws to a close, we'll watch four unusual film productions in our mini film festival, "Shakespeare Outside the Box"

We begin with Sir Ian McKellen as Richard III, set in a fascist 1930's Britain.  Stay for a brief discussion after the film, released in 1995.

Future films:

Sunday, December 11: The Tragedy of Hamlet, (2002), directed by Peter Brook, with an international, multiethnic cast.

Saturday, December 17: Much Ado About Nothing, (2012) directed by Joss Whedon, in black and white, with Nathan Fillion as Dogberry.

Sunday, December 18: King Lear, (1971) directed by Peter Brook with Paul Scofield as Lear, filmed in Denmark.
