Downtown Transit History @Central CMR

Steve Finacom, past President of the Berkeley Historical Society, talks about the evolution of Berkeley’s transit core around Center St & Shattuck Ave, starting in the 1870s with the advent a train station connecting Berkeley with Oakland. Every generation since has seen a new development (evolution) of the area as a “transit hub,” with the idea that the transit station is being built for today and the future. Yet every generation finds it an antiquated mess that needs improvements.
