3rd floor Community Meeting Room
Join readers across the nation in bringing Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here" to the Berkeley Public Library. Lewis' darkly satirical play, written in 1936 for the National Theater Project, imagines the rise of fascism in America, race riots, huge income gaps between rich and poor, the stigmatizing of immigrants, global terror and a right-wing extremist running for President. On this day, readers all across America will take part in free staged readings of this scarily prescient play. All are welcome, either as readers or audience. Scripts are provided; we'll change parts frequently so everyone who wants to gets a chance to read aloud. Questions? Call Debbie Carton, 510-981-6236.
