Not just a simple stroll through the woods, forest bathing is a practice of immersing oneself in the sights, sounds, smells and sensations of nature.  Developed in Japan in the 1980s, it is called shinrin yoku.  In Japanese, “shinrin” means forest and “yoku” means bath.  Some of the health benefits found in scientific studies include decreased stress, improved mood, more energy, and experiences of awe.

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

From "When I Among the Trees," by Mary Oliver

Meet in the Faculty Glade.    Bring a journal and something to sit on as the ground may be damp!  Please register ahead and we will be able to contact you if we have inclement weather and need to reschedule or change location.
