Berkeley Public Library welcomes Dr. Nancy Wang Yuen, speaking on race and representation in popular culture. Dr. Yuen’s talk will include reflections on Kevin Kwan’s New York Times bestselling novel, Crazy Rich Asians, which is this 2019 pick for Berkeley’s Citywide Read program.

Nancy Wang Yuen, Ph.D., is a sociologist and pop culture expert. She is the author of Reel Inequality: Hollywood Actors and Racism, the first book to examine the barriers actors of color face in Hollywood and how they creatively challenge stereotypes.

​A popular speaker on race and media, Dr Yuen has appeared in Al Jazeera English, BBC World TV, PRI, Teen Vogue, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Washington Post among others. She is a guest writer at Elle, HuffPost and Remezcla. ​
