December 7, 2019 - 2:00pm-5:00pm (ended)

3rd floor Community Meeting Room

Book Into Film is a library series meeting approximately every other month, where you are invited to read the book on your own, watch the film with others at the library, and stay after the screening for a discussion of both book and film.

This month's book into film journey has a stop in the middle - book into ballet into film. Check out one of the library's copies of The Nutcracker and Mouse King, the original 1816 story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, to read before the film viewing. (Use this link to go directly to the original version!) We will be watching the 1986 film Nutcracker: The Motion Picture, based on the Pacific Northwest Ballet's original production of Tchaikovsky's ballet, with sets and costumes designed by Maurice Sendak. We'll discuss the the book, the adaptation, the many other versions, how The Nutcracker became such a popular ballet in the first place, and more!
