Poetry Past & Present: Denise Levertov, a Celebration of her Life & Poetry and Open Mic Session, with Susan Griffin, Eavan Boland, Peter Dale Scott, and David Shaddock • Saturday, April 19, 2-4:30pm @ Central, Community Meeting Room, 3rd Floor. Join us in honoring the recent first time publication of The Collected Poems of Denise Levertov (New Directions, 2013). Levertov was a poet, critic, former poetry editor for The Nation, and recipient of the Robert Frost Medal, among many other awards.

In honor of Youth Art Month, meet the illustrator and one half of the sisterly dynamic duo who created such books as Regarding the Fountain: a Tale, in Letters, of Liars and Leaks, Stand Straight, Ella Kate: The True Story of a Real Giant, and the 43 Old Cemetery Road series. She'll talk about how she works with her sister to create a book, and guide you to make some art as well! Ages 5 and up.
The Art & Music Department of the Berkeley Public Library presents a multimedia author talk with Bay Area musician and naturalist Bernie Krause at the Central Library in the 3rd floor Community Meeting Room on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 2:00 pm.
Los Angeles Author and Filmmaker Erich Martin Hicks will visit the library to discuss his novel Rescue at Pine Ridge. Rescue at Pine Ridge is a fictionalized account of the rescue of the 7th Cavalry by the “Buffalo Soldiers” of the 9th Cavalry at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The author will show a short film detailing the events followed by a Q & A with the audience.This event will take place in the Library's 3rd Floor Meeting Room.
Join us for a discussion of The Infatuations by Javier Marias, a fiction finalist for the 2013 National book Critics Circle Award.Part thriller, part metaphysical inquiry, this novel is a fine introduction to Marias’ work and should give us a good deal to discuss.

We'll also be talking about books for future book group meetings and will be making time for YOU to tell us what YOU would like to see the club read as well.
