Michelle Cruz Gonzales and Cristy Road are both authors, have both fronted punk bands, and will both be reading from their recent works at the West Branch!
Michelle Cruz Gonzales played her first show at the Gilman when she was 18 with the band Bitch Fight, and continued to play with the Lookout! bands Kamala and the Karnivores and Spitboy. She’s the author of The Spitboy Rule: Tales of a Xicana in a Female Punk Band from PM Press. She is currently at work on a new satirical novel and teaches community college English and Creative Writing.
Cristy C. Road is a Cuban-American artist, writer, and musician. Road published Green’zine from 1997-2004, and since has released three illustrated novels about mental health, sexuality, cultural identity, and punk. Her most recent novel is “Spit and Passion”, a coming-out memoir about staying in the closet and discovering Green Day. She's been creating illustrations for punk rock, activism, and publishing for over 15 years, fronted her band The Homewreckers from 2008-2016, and is currently working on The Next World Tarot card deck and her new band.
