Berkeley, January 30, 2015— The Library celebrates two themes in February: African American History month and the literary genre of Romance. Professional storyteller Kirk Waller has amazing performances that cover these themes. Kirk Waller, award-winning storyteller and Director of Storytelling Programs at Stagebridge Senior Theater Company will entrance both children and adult audiences at the Berkeley Public Library in February. Islamic Art Exhibit: Women in Islam at Berkeley Public Library Berkeley, January 23, 2015—Islamic Art Exhibit presents a group art exhibition on the theme Women in Islam at the Central Library from February 9 – April 19, 2015. Meet the artists and learn about their work during an artists’ reception on Saturday, February 14 at 2:00 pm in the third floor Community Meeting Room of the Central Library. Women in Islam highlights the rights, status and accomplishments of Muslim women through the visual arts.

He will discuss his new book, Who We Be: The Colorization of America, released by St. Martin's Press in October 2014. Jeff Chang has written extensively on culture, politics, the arts and music. Who We Be remixes comic strips and contemporary art, campus protests and corporate marketing campaigns, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Trayvon Martin into a powerful, unusual and timely cultural history of the idea of racial progress. Berkeley, December 29, 2014—Join the Berkeley Public Library’s Claremont Branch Book Club in discussing To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Our book club meets 6:30 - 7:45 pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Claremont Branch. Then come back to view this classic film starring Gregory Peck, on Saturday, January 24 at 3:00 pm. Originally published in 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird became a best-seller, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961 and was made into an Academy Award-winning film. Lee’s only published novel, with its memorable characters, layered meaning, powerful themes and vivid depiction of racism in the Depression-era South make for a great evening’s conversation and an afternoon’s viewing.
