Description: 
Annual observance of the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Japan, Aug. 6 and 9, 1945. Decorate lantern shades, float lanterns on the lagoon at dusk. Brief ceremony includes messages from the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, music. All ages. Be prepared for cool weather at sundown.
Services: 
Program includes lantern making and decorating, origami folding, Japanese music and other performances, and floating of lanterns on lagoon at dusk. Ceremony is usually on the Saturday closest to August 6 (the anniversary of the world's first atomic bombing). Volunteer opportunities.
