Storytimes and other events for children

Storytimes At The Berkeley Public Library

Storytimes bring language to life, and open up the world of other people and places. The Berkeley Public Library offers programs for toddlers, preschoolers and the whole family. Join us for good stories, rhymes, music, and fun!.

Note for group leaders: Groups are always welcome to request a storytime for their group on a monthly basis. For policies regarding group attendance at regularly scheduled storytimes, please contact the children's staff at your local library.

Central Children's Library

Baby Bounce and Toddler Time: Wednesday mornings at 10:15 AND 11:00. The 10:15 and 11:00am programs are identical; please attend either (or both!) as your child's schedule permits. Nursery rhymes, songs, fingerplays, lap bounces, and very short picture books for children 6 months - 36 months and their parents/caregivers. Please note that storytimes take time off. Wiggles and Giggles: Friday mornings at 10:30-11:00. Bring your 3 to 5 year old to our movement program where we'll wiggle to music, giggle to funny stories, and pretend to be wild and wonderful animals and other things! Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

Wild About Books!: Saturday mornings at 10:30. For children 3 to 7 years. This program of stories, songs, and other activities features special guest performers on the first Saturday of the month. On other Saturday mornings, the children’s librarians share the programming, adding their own music and storytelling skills to each week’s mix. A great way to rediscover favorite titles and meet some of the best new books for early listeners. Check dates and times.

Claremont Branch

Baby Bounce and Toddler Time: Saturday mornings at 10:15.Nursery rhymes, songs, fingerplays, lap bounces, and very short picture books for children 6 months - 3 years old and their parents or caregivers. Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

Preschool Storytime: Saturday mornings at 11:15.Books, stories, songs, fingerplays and stretches for children 3 - 5 years old. Please, no children under 2 1/2 unless accompanied by an older child/sibling. Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

Storytime for 4-7 year olds: Wednesday afternoons at 3:30. Longer picture books, folktales, and stretches will be featured for children 4 - 7 years old. Special events are also scheduled in this time slot. Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

North Branch:

Baby and Toddler Time: Monday mornings at 10:15. For ages 6 months-3 years. (NO GROUPS PLEASE) Each storytime includes songs, fingerplays, poems, bounces, and stories. Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

Picture Book Time: Tuesday mornings at 11:00. For ages 3-5. Picture books, stretches, and fingerplays. Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

Family Stories: Thursday evenings at 7:00. For ages 3-7 and their parents. Picture book stories, fairy tales, fingerplays and stretches. Fun for the whole family! Check dates and times.

South Branch

Baby Bounce: Tuesday mornings at 10:15, a one-on-one program of music, books and fingerplays for parents/caregivers and their pre-walking baby (0-12 months). ( This is a one-on-one program and cannot accomodate older siblings). Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

Toddler Time: Tuesday mornings at 11:00, with books, music, movement, fingerplays and more for ages 12-36 months accompanied by a caregiver. Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

West Branch

Baby Bounce & Toddler Tales: First three Friday mornings of the month from10:00-10:30. For babies and toddlers aged 6 months to 35 months, and their parent/caregiver. Please note that storytimes take time off. Check dates and times.

Book Groups

Be a part of our Middle School Book Group! Read and discuss great books that you pick!

Join us on the third Tuesday of the month, October thru May, at 4:00pm. We will read many exciting books, have interesting discussions, meet a dynamic author and munch on delicious book-themed snacks. Check calendar for dates, times, and book of the month.

Children entering 6th, 7th and 8th grade can join any or all sessions. Just read the book and jump in!  For further information, call Armin or Emma at 510-981-6223 during library open hours.
