Grownups

At Berkeley Public Library, children are so important to us
that we’ve created special areas just for them.
Come visit these inviting spaces at each branch library and in the
Central Library. Kids can explore our large collections of
children’s materials and join in special programs and
activities. Our collection of books and media focuses on children
from birth through the 8th grade. We’re the perfect place to foster
your child’s lifelong love of reading.

Spark your child’s interest

There’s so much in the Children’s Areas to engage their interest:
• Children’s books and magazines for all ages and interests
• Board books for babies and toddlers
• Kid-appropriate videos, DVDs, music on tape and CD, and
audio books
• Books in Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish
AWE Early Literacy Station™ computers, loaded with fun,
educational games, stories and activities for children ages 2 – 8.
Internet computers just for kids, for school work and surfing
the web. Please note, Internet access is not filtered.
• Family Passes for the Bay Area Discovery Museum and the
Contemporary Jewish Museum
are available at the Central Library
and the South and West Branches. Due to the popularity of
these passes, there is a limit of one pass per patron at the same time.

We’re kid-focused

Our children’s staff is ready to help kids, teachers, parents, and
others find movies, music and more for babies through 8th
graders. We can recommend good books, find information, and
help you use the online catalog. Teachers, ask about bringing your
class to the library
for a tour or special storytime.

Once upon a time, and more!

We’ve got great activities and fun programs to keep kids
engaged and help develop their imaginations and creativity.
We offer a variety of storytimes with songs, picture books
and more for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and families.
Each month we schedule special performers like storytellers,
puppeteers, magicians and others. To find out about special
and ongoing events at the library, pick up our monthly printed
calendar or see the online Calendar.

Keep them learning

We’ve got book discussion groups for 4th and 5th graders and
